Warned y’all I did! Yes, indeedy. I warned you that Senator Harry Reid and the “Gang of 14” were plotting to pick the new Supreme Court justice to replace Justice O’Conner. I hope that my prediction is wrong, but look what’s a happening just today according to The Hill:
“Bush and his aides have contacted about 60 senators and have even asked a few of them to offer names of people they think would make good nominees. At least two Democratic senators, Robert Byrd (W.Va.) and Ben Nelson (Neb.), have complied, forwarding names to the White House.
“Bush telephoned Byrd — … yesterday to solicit his views. ‘I’m praising the president for listening, for reaching out,’ Byrd, among the administration’s harshest congressional critics, told The Hill. He said he had received a call earlier from former Sen. Fred Thompson (R-Tenn.), who is helping Bush select a nominee and get him or her confirmed, and from White House counsel Harriet Myers. Byrd said he forwarded two names to the White House.”
I already posted about this at Non-judges Only for the Court, and already our worst fears seem to be happening. That ole West Virginny Byrd, former member of the Ku Klux Klan, and now a gang member has his hands up to his elbows in the pudding. And to help matters, the Senate Republicans are right there in the kitchen with him, plotting. They probably think that it might be easier to send the Byrd to a new and higher perch than to pin their hopes on defeating him in 2006. Who else can fit the M.O. that Harry Reid hoped that the President would nominate; someone who is a former KKK member and also a senator?
“I think it is a great idea,” Reid said about the possibility of appointing a senator to the Supreme Court. “Some outstanding people have come from the Senate. The last was an ex-Ku Klux Klansman who turned out to be one of the greatest civil-rights jurists of all time.” (Reno Gazette-Journal)
