“‘Europe is no longer Europe, it is ‘Eurabia,’ a colony of Islam, where the Islamic invasion does not proceed only in a physical sense, but also in a mental and cultural sense. Servility to the invaders has poisoned democracy, with obvious consequences for the freedom of thought, and for the concept itself of liberty.'”
~~Oriana Fallaci, from an interview by By Tunku Varadarajan, 28 June 2005, at LA NUEVA CUBA
Oriana Fallaci has been indicted in her native Italy under provisions of the Italian Penal Code which proscribe vilification of religion. She authored a book last year, “The Force of Reason“, which has sold more than a million copies. The main thesis of her book is that the continent of Europe is on the verge of becoming a dominion of Islam. She writes that the people of the West have fecklessly surrendered themselves to the “sons of Allah.” Fortunately for Ms. Fallaci, she has residency in New York where she plans to stay.
At seventy years old, and terminally ill with cancer, the impending “Fall of the West” haunts her. What torments her most is Westerners are marching so blithely toward that precipice of no return. She sees little hope for the future of Europe, saying “The increased presence of Muslims in Italy, and in Europe, is directly proportional to our loss of freedom.” Although an atheist herself, the only ray of hope she sees is that possibly Pope Benedict XVI, whom she refers to as Ratzinger, will save Europe from itself.
In August of 1526, Sultan Suleiman I smashed the forces of King Lajos II of Hungary. Following the partial conquest of Hungary, and the disintegration of the rest as a state, Suleiman turned his attention to Austria. At the Siege of Vienna in 1529, the armies of Christianity and and the seemingly unstoppable armies of Islam clashed in the center of Europe. Following the seige, the defenders of Vienna examined each man for circumcision, believing the Turks had smuggled in spies, and hanged everyone that failed the test. The invasion and seige cost both sides, Christian and Muslim, dearly. Tens of thousands of soldiers and civilians died and thousands more sold into slavery.
